Programme Overview

Description

Created by Ido Rosenblum (Touch, Plan B) and Keshet Broadcasting, BOOM! fuses the drama, thrill, and intensity of a blockbuster action movie with the high-octane fun of a video game, creating one literally explosive trivia challenge.

A unique visual concept coupled with a rollercoaster of laughter and adrenaline, BOOM!’s fresh approach packs the intellectual AND physical challenges of existing game shows into a must-see viewing event for all ages.

BOOM! delivers fierce tension and light-hearted humor in quick succession, extending the experience from the studio contestants to the at-home audience. Viewers can play along via a fun, cool app, neutralizing their own bombs, certain in the knowledge that one mistake and it’s BOOM! for them! The show features two teams of four players each who have to defuse multiple ‘bombs’ by answering questions, the answers to which are represented by coloured wires.

Originally licensed from Keshet International when the format was first launched to market in 2014, BOOM! Spain was a huge hit for Atresmedia’s Antena 3 for eight consecutive seasons. By the end of 2023, over 2,000 episodes had been commissioned, produced and broadcast in Spain - all of them presented by the original host Juanra Bonet. Stripped weekdays on Antena 3, BOOM! Spain grew steadily to average a viewing share of 14% across Season 8, with an average of 1.9M viewers per one-hour episode.

During its nine years on air, BOOM! Spain implemented various format tweaks to keep the show fresh and up-to-date. It was also awarded two prestigious Guinness World Records: the first for the most consecutive wins on a TV game show (a total of 300, won by a team called Los Lobos on 24 July 2018); and the second for the largest prize pot of 4.13M Euros (again won by Los Lobos). Their record-breaking winning streak captured the imagination of viewers across Spain, peaking at 4.3m viewers – a massive audience for Antena 3 - 28% of the available audience at that time.

Now, in 2024, KI's most successful format has been licensed for a second time in Spain - to Mediaset Espana. Produced by Mediacrest, this latest Spanish adaptation is currently premiering on Cuatro, with Christian Gálvez as host.

In addition to Spain, the format has a total of 21 international adaptations, including markets such as Colombia (Caracol), Argentina (Telefe), the US (Fox), France (TF1), Chile (TVN) and Hungary (TV2).
