Programme Overview
Description
Aired in the UK as Inside Animal A&E.
Take an exclusive look behind the scenes at two of the UK’s busiest and biggest pet A&E departments in this emotional, relatable, and drama-packed documentary reality series. Each day, an incredible team of vets, nurses, and volunteers go to extraordinary lengths to diagnose and treat a diverse range of poorly pets. They all have just one aim – to get the animals home, safe and well, to their loving families.
Animal Ambulance follows the fates and fortunes of the staff and patients at the Blue Cross hospitals in Victoria, London and Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Whether it’s the dedicated ambulance service rushing animals into hospital for vital treatment, the GP-style drop-in mobile clinics, or the drama of life-saving surgeries, the series witnesses every aspect of hospital life. This is the front line of the NHS for pets – a place where time is always of the essence and every minute could be the difference between life and death.
From serious accidents to embarrassing illnesses, viewers will get up close and personal with all manner of pet predicaments. The Blue Cross A&E staff never know what might walk, hop, crawl or even slither through their doors. In this series, patients include Bob the plus-size cat, whose excess weight is causing serious health complaints; Noel, a guinea pig with an unusual, and somewhat delicate, emotional issue; Squeaky, a tiny rat with a lump that needs removing; and a 50-kilo Dogue de Bordeaux with a mysterious problem.
Combining the thrilling action and tension of a hospital-set factual entertainment show with heartfelt and relatable stories of pet ownership, Animal Ambulance showcases the strong relationships we form with our furry friends and the lengths we’ll go to to care for them. As lives are saved and unbreakable bonds are made, we’ll discover that, for those at the Blue Cross animal hospitals, no two days are ever quite the same.
