Programme Overview

Description

Baby birds fledge around them, animals swim and float through them, and enormous flocks of migrating birds visit them - these are just some of the stunning visions depicted in yet another soulful nature documentary from director Marko Röhr.

Tale of a Lake (Järven tarina) is the second installment of a nature-oriented trilogy that includes Tale of a Forest (2013) and Tale of the Sleeping Giants (2021). A celebration of the thousands of lakes that Finland is known for, this magnificent feature takes viewers on an unprecedented adventure, ranging from crystal clear springs all the way to the basins of the big lakes. It opens a whole new world of underwater nature for viewers and offers an extraordinary tour of the lakes' hidden depths, giving unprecedented access to secretive habitats of numerous plants and animals.

Told through the magical myths, legends, and folklore narratives from Finnish mythology, and narrated by the comforting voice of Jonathan Hutchings, Tale of a Lake is the biggest box office documentary in the history of Finnish cinema, establishing Matila Röhr Productions as - literally - a cinematic force of nature.
